How to Use Flashtool for Mac to Flash Sony Phones
If you own a Sony phone and want to flash a new firmware or unlock the bootloader, you might be looking for a tool that works on Mac. Flashtool is a free software that can flash Sony phones from X10 to Xperia Z Ultra using the S1 protocol. Flashtool can also easily unlock the bootloader of your phone if it is unlockable. In this article, we will show you how to download and use Flashtool for Mac to flash your Sony phone.
Step 1: Download Flashtool for Mac
The latest version of Flashtool for Mac is 0.9.36.0 and you can download it from the official website[^2^]. You will get a zip file that contains the Flashtool app and some other files. Extract the zip file to a folder of your choice.
Step 2: Install Java Runtime Environment
Flashtool requires Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to run on Mac. You can check if you have JRE installed by opening a terminal window and typing java -version. If you see a message like java version \"1.8.0_281\", then you have JRE installed. If not, you can download and install JRE from here.
Step 3: Run Flashtool
To run Flashtool, you can either double-click on the Flashtool app in the folder where you extracted it, or open a terminal window and navigate to that folder and type ./FlashTool. You should see a window like this:
Flashtool will automatically check for updates and download them if available. You can also manually check for updates by clicking on the Updates button at the top.
Step 4: Download Firmware
To flash your Sony phone, you need to have the firmware file that matches your phone model and region. You can download firmware files from various sources online, such as XperiFirm or Xperia Stock ROM. Make sure you download the correct firmware file for your phone.
Once you have downloaded the firmware file, you need to copy it to the Firmwares folder inside the Flashtool folder. The firmware file should have a .ftf extension.
Step 5: Flash Firmware
To flash your Sony phone, you need to put it in flash mode. This is different for different models of Sony phones, but usually involves pressing and holding a specific button while connecting the phone to the computer with a USB cable. You can find the instructions for your phone model online or in the Flashtool app by clicking on the Help button at the top.
Once your phone is in flash mode, Flashtool will detect it and show you a list of available firmware files in the Firmware Selector window. Select the firmware file that you want to flash and click on Flash. You can also choose to wipe data or exclude some components from flashing by checking or unchecking the boxes below.
Flashtool will then start flashing your phone and show you the progress in the Log window. Do not disconnect your phone until Flashtool says Flashing finished. Your phone will reboot automatically after flashing.
